MAKE THE MEASUREMENT MEAN SOMETHING

Understand your mounting measurements

A layout gives each frame an outside-edge position. Mounting needs one more piece of information: where the actual hardware supports that frame. An artwork center, a support contact and a nail or drill hole can be three different places.

When the hardware is unknown

Choose Unknown / wire / wall hook if you have not measured a fixed support contact, use a wire, or need a separate wall-hook offset. The guide still lists frame edges. It clearly marks mounting data as incomplete and prints no guessed support coordinates for that frame.

Do not replace unknown values with zero to make a warning disappear. Zero is a real measurement at the edge. If you choose one or two fixed contacts, every requested offset must be entered before the guide can be prepared.

Measure from the side you are looking at

For a fixed contact, record its distance from the left and top outside edges of the frame. Select Front or Back to match your view. If measuring from the back, the left offset must be mirrored to get the wall’s front-facing coordinate.

A back-view worked example

A frame is 400 mm wide, with its upper-left corner 600 mm from the wall’s left and 350 mm from the top. Looking at the back, you measure a fixed contact 90 mm from the back-left edge and 30 mm below the top.

  1. The front-facing contact offset is 400 − 90 = 310 mm from the frame’s left.
  2. The wall contact is 600 + 310 = 910 mm from the wall’s left.
  3. It is 350 + 30 = 380 mm from the wall’s top.

If the chosen wall rectangle is 1800 mm high, that contact is 1800 − 380 = 1420 mm above its bottom. This is not automatically a height above the floor.

Two contacts do not have to be symmetrical

Measure each point independently. They may be different heights or different distances from the edges. For a back measurement, each point is mirrored independently and keeps its number. Coincident points, missing values or offsets outside the frame prevent guide output. Resizing a frame does not scale previously measured hardware offsets.

A contact is not necessarily a fastener mark. A separate wall hook may place its nail or screw above or beside the point supporting the frame. Wire tension also changes the geometry. This tool does not calculate either adjustment. Follow the hardware manufacturer’s instructions and verify the actual contact-to-fastener relationship separately.

Print a measurement reference

  1. Resolve all overlaps, out-of-bounds frames and incomplete entered offsets.
  2. Open Preview installation guide and read its mounting-data warning.
  3. Use Print / save as PDF. Select A4 or US Letter, portrait, with normal margins.
  4. Inspect every page in the print preview for clipped rows. Browser headers and footers can be switched off.
  5. Read the numeric positions. Never measure from the printed overview diagram: it is not a full-size paper or drilling template.

Printing uses the current validated plan. An unfinished or invalid input blocks a coordinate worksheet, including browser printing. A PDF is produced by your browser’s print dialog; this is not a separate paid PDF service.

Before transferring the plan

Recheck the wall rectangle, outside frame sizes and mounting offsets on the physical objects. Use temporary paper outlines to confirm appearance and clearance. Choose suitable wall hardware independently and check for hidden services. The planner cannot assess wall structure, anchors, frame weight or safe load, and the guide is not a construction certification.
