START WITH THE OUTSIDE EDGES
How to measure your gallery wall
Before arranging anything, choose one usable rectangular area and measure the actual outside edges of your frames. Those are the dimensions that determine whether the collection fits.
Choose a wall rectangle you can find again
Measure its width and height. The rectangle may be the whole wall or a smaller clear area above furniture. Allow for obstructions yourself: the planner does not detect sockets, switches, furniture, trim or hidden pipes.
Identify the upper-left corner while facing the wall. Every “From left” value goes rightward from that corner; every “From top” value goes downward. Do not switch to a center line halfway through transferring measurements.
Measure the frame, not the picture opening
- Place the frame in the orientation in which it will hang.
- Measure from the outermost left edge to the outermost right edge.
- Measure from the outermost top edge to the outermost bottom edge.
- Give it a short label you can recognize in the printed guide.
A picture sold as 8 × 10 inches may sit inside a larger outer frame. Enter the measured outside size, not the label on the artwork. This planner handles rectangles; an irregular object needs separate clearance checking.
Use millimetres or decimal inches
Enter plain numbers with a dot and at most three decimal places: 400, 25.4 or 12.125. Fractional input such as 12 1/8 is not accepted; enter 12.125 instead. Do not include unit symbols or thousands separators.
One inch equals 25.4 mm. Changing the unit selector changes the display without re-parsing rounded numbers, so repeated switches do not resize frames. Displaying three decimals does not promise physical accuracy to three decimals.
Separate position from spacing
A frame’s position is its upper-left outside corner, not its center. The gap control applies only when you press Apply layout. Manual moves can create unequal gaps, overlaps or an out-of-bounds frame; the planner flags those geometry problems before it prepares a guide.
The input limits are 300–10,000 mm for each wall dimension, 10–3,000 mm for each frame dimension, and 0–500 mm for a preset gap. These are software limits, not recommendations about room design or mounting safety.
Measure hardware only when you know it
It is fine to arrange frames first and leave hardware as Unknown. A measurement guide can show frame edges while clearly marking incomplete mounting data. When ready, follow the fixed-contact measuring guide .
